does anyone know anything about car stereos ?

I am trying to hook up my jvc car stereo and I followed the instructions ad hooked up all the wires right. and for some reason it won't send power to the reciever . but then I un-hook the yellow wire that comes out of the reciever and touch it to the 2 red wires and it works . so I programed everything and it work . then i shut the car off went inside the house came back out started my car and it erased everything . why won't this work??

It's erasing everything becuase you dont have the yellow power wire hooked up to a 12v source that is hot all the time.

Ok there should be two power wires one should be yellow and the other red or sometimes it could be blue. The wire that is the biggest is the 12v wire that needs to be connected to a 12v source that is hot all the time. This is the wire that allowes your deck to store radio stations and settings while the car is off.

The smaller power wire needs to be hooked up to the acc wire that provides 12v only when the key is turned on that is the wire that actually tells your deck to turn on and start playing music.

So you have the deck wired to the acc only and that is why it is erasing everything when you turn it off.

just hook up the yello cable to a constant power source and the red one to ur fuse box.make sure its a power source that shuts off power when u shut ignition.i ran the yellow wire all the way to my battery for constant power and the red one to fuse box.hope this will help.

if the yellow wire doesn't have power, check your fuses.
