The ubiquitous KA24 timing chain tick. Don't use thicker oil! It will make the problem worse, and cause other problems.
This is what worked for me when I had my 240. Buy yourself some Seafoam, and pour about 1/3 of the bottle into the engine. Let it warm up and drive it around slow (low rpms) for about 15 minutes. Then change the oil and filter.
You may need to do it a second time.
If that doesn't work, it's time to change the chain, guide and tensioner. On the KA24E it's not that hard. You can access everything from the front cover. If you have not done timing belts/chains before, I would let a shop do it for you.24psi, 7k everyday. All 152,000 miles! ...boost leaks included

I was wondering what would probably happen if you just put the Seafoam and not do the oil change? But I found this in another forums

I normally NEVER drive my car after. I just run it till the smoke stops. Plus while I'm running it, I do the intake treatment with Seafoam Deep Creep. (same stuff, just a spray bottle).
As for changing the oil. I drive the vehicle about 500 miles PRIOR to changing the oil. HOWEVER, I called Seafoam this afternoon to discuss how long is too long to drive (was going to add that in the write up as well). They said that you should drive no more than 100 miles with seafoam prior to changing the oil..
Also, MAKE SURE TO HOLD THE HOSE ON THE SURFACE OF THE LIQUID. DO NOT SUBMERGE THE HOSE. THIS CAN CASE YOUR MOTOR TO HYDROLOCK. THE HOSE SHOULD MAKE A "SLURPING" NOISE!"The ultimate skill is to take up a position where you are formless.... I've been using Seafoam since before it was readily available. It's good stuff, and the only stuff I trust. But you have to use it right.
