You don't bore ls1s or any ls block for that matter, they are liner style blocks, and can only be honed very slightly, 97/98 block can only take .004 inch, and your 99+ blocks can go .010 inches. from the stock 3.898 bore (99mm) they came with. Thought you would know that??
But no worries this thing will be back together in a matter of time..

a quick question how do the make a 408 and 402 out of the ls1 350 block?
i seen this kit and they bore it over?
(Take a look at our LS1 408 4.000 10.6 4.030 bore Engine Assembly as well as other Lunati products available for sale here at Hawkins Speed Shop)
www.hawkinsspeedshop.com/.../engine.../product-554.html
i don't know much about ls1 jut know they can make power and alot of it!!!
and people under estimate ls1 have top end for days!!!!!

Your 6.0l iron blocks, the lq4/lq9s have then same internals, just a slightly larger bore. 4.00inch. That's your "ls1 402/408" now don't get me wrong, plenty of shops have just bored the liners out, to go back and press in bigger liners, but your diggin deep into your pockets for that. Gettin a iron block, that already has the bore, and some room to go bigger is a cheaper route.
Also the iron blocks come with truck heads, that have 68cc combustion chambers, slap on some ls1 heads and your in the ball park of 10.4:1 compression. Which is .3 better than your stock ls1, and you've added cubes.. On all stock parts.. Work the heads, maybe run a thinner gasket, easily pull more power out of it..
These things make power because they flow well, have crazy stong bottom-ends, (6 bolt mains), and come out the box, just a cam away from 400hp to the tires of whatever car you choose.

I don't think it looked that bad! Mostly debris buildup from the piston material just take a 120 sponge wheel on dremel and polish out the chamber! After your done pop the valves out and look at valves and seats with a scope, make sure there is no debris that would cause the valve not to seat properly. I know I have reused heads that had far more damage then that

Son of a .....! That's gonna leave a mark!

I was just looking at an LQ9 block on the Scoggin Dickey sight that didn't seem to bad price wise. Here's the link.

That really sucks that you didn't at least get to drive that thing a little more than you did before it let go. I guess it could have been worse, but that's easy for me to say. Hope you get it back together soon.
Good luck,
Chris
