FORD GUYS! i need engine help

its coming down to the weekend and theres a show as everyone knows. my truck usually runs cherry, but lately its been running like crap. it boggs like im running out of gas. people have told me to check my plugs, did it. got a new distributor cap, rotor, starter, coil, fuel filter and it started running good again. i was told to check and see if the choke on the carb was stuck and it does sometimes, but it wouldnt start today and i made sure the choke wasnt stuck. its not a compression issue. i was also told it could be my cat, which i just found out tonight that it was bad, or Dustin said it could be the EGR and thats not coming out until spring break. i need help guys and i dont know where to start. anything?? sound familiar to anyone?

wouldn't be the EGR if there was a leak or something on the EGR it would idle faster and not bog down... if your cat is bad it could be restricting the exhaust, which would feel like a bog down, how's the idle?

Does it turn over now? Have you messed with the carb? Does it bogg down when its been running for a while or does it do it all the time?

Theres no leak. But I've been told that when it messes up it does that to the engine and it'll run good for a few days, then mess up, then run good then mess up. That's what I was told about the cat, that it will restrict the exhaust flow and that could make it die or bog when idling. It usually idels fine, but sometimes when it's not running right, it has a normal idle, but when revved it starts bogging and I'll keep it at a constant power and the rpms will decrease slowly then the truck will die. It randmly acts like this. All yesterday it ran great, then around 4:30 I was going to go to kragens and it started, but immediately started bogging. I drove it up and down my street and when I got to my house it died and wouldn't start again. It was bogging the whole time I drove it down my street. Sometimes if I punch it it'll stop, but it died when I punched it this time.

If it makes a hissing/ whisle noise it maybe a vacuum leak. The best thing for this is to spray all your lines with carb cleaner. I've used it before and found a leak. Just another suggestion.

I know it's not a vacuum leak. I don't understand why but I want to say it's a spark issue again. Idk what it would be tho since I have a brand new coil and distributor cap. Think the points eliminator is going out? That's the only thing I can think of. All of my plugs are fine and my wires. Idk what else it could be

Okay I know the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I'm getting spark from the coil to the cap, but not from the cap to the block. Why is it doing this? This was my same exact problem 2 weeks ago

Distributor might be corroded...look at the contacts under the cap, again I know you just changed it. But check again. Check the timing also! If your timing changes than your distributor is gone. Does it ever backfire?

On one of my cars the timing was changing day to day and I replaced my distributor and it fixed the problem. Go with MSD they are the shit if its the distributor!
