Ehhh this is what makes being a car guy fun!! To be able to sit around and bicker about what you think is best! Import vs Domestic or Mustang vs Camaro Subaru vs Mitsubishi makes for a hell of alot of good talk!
I like import's becuase they are lightweight and handle decent! Give me a late 80's RX-7 and 5k and i can make it outhandle everything and shoot 4ft fireball's!
But give me a Domestic v8 and i can cruise up the grapevine with 300lb of luggage and passengers with the A.C on and be able to easily mantain speed!

All those cats in that video are die hard racers from Chicago, Texas and the east coast! And super fucking fast. I think fast is fast, I don't care what it is

Let me share some of my experiences, since I kind of fall somewhere in between all this.
I started getting into cars in 95. It was with imports, but just because my dad loved Toyotas. Inline 6 RWD Toyotas to be specific. He hates "wrong wheel drives". My uncles also loved cars, some were into Camaros, others 240z, CelicaSupras, and RX7s.
I remember the V8 crowd hating on us when we first showed up to the street races. Unfortunately for the import guys, back then, if you couldn't afford a turbo z, rx7, or supra, you resorted to a civc hatchback with a swapped motor, and nitrous.
"Nip Tip, Jap Crap, Mitsubishit" were pretty common words back then too.
As the import scene grew, a lot of the young kids started trying to look like the racers, and started installing good for nothing parts on their cars. For some reason, it became the popular thing to do, and everyone and their sister had a lowered Honda with an exhaust tip.
If you talk to bay area or L.A. area import guys, it was all about being fast and looking clean, not "trying to look fast". Most of my friends who owned imports drove sleepers. Little four door civics rolling on steel wheels with hub caps sporting sleeved block squeezing 120 shot. One of my buddies had a sleeved integra boosting 20lbs that smoked most everything he raced back in '98. It was a crude turbo system, and he eventually blew it up, but that thing was fast.
I don't think the guys in the midwest saw the early stages of the import scene. I think by the time it hit them, it had turned into the Fast and Furious bullshit it is today.
I've lost track of the domestic scene, and most of the import scene because they've pretty much seperated into their manufacture groups. But I can tell you that there are more than a dozen Evos in the bay that are 11 second, full interior, street tire, daily drivers. And a couple 10 second ones in there too. So you can't say that one car, no matter where it's made is better than the other. Shit, I saw a low 12 second Hyundai Genesis last fall at Sac Raceway, car was brand new.
There's nothing like talking shit to other car guys who are into their cars and getting them riled up though.
24psi, 7k everyday. All 152,000 miles! ...boost leaks included

i own a domestic and an import and i like them both for their own reasons and they both serve a different purpose in my life but when it comes to racing nothing compares to the torque of a muslce car off a dig where most races are won

i started a street racing essay and it backfired...not enough argument with street racing..just cause its illegal and all..but if your going to be talking about the roots..its hard also cause it started way to far back and it started as something else not street racing forgot the time period during those when beer was illegal..my history is bad now..lol..the death penalty i went with..and theres much there to argue about..like why store the inmate for so long if were going to kill him anyways..just get it over with instead were paying taxes for him..and if heart failure he has preference goes to like the top of the donor list..which is bs..but those are an idea for you...good luck with the essay..
